One of the great things Twitter has created is the ability to share events, data, and emotions in real-time without the constraints of physical location. At conferences, many of the tweets in the stream are from people who couldn't come to the event, but their tweets are a welcome and valuable part of the conversation.

The same is true of sporting events: it's not just about the fans in the stadium, but those at the bar down the street, those who have moved away from their "home team," and those watching from their couch.
